Beat the NHS waiting list for insole orthotics and steroid injections - See us privately!

Big cutbacks have led to funding reductions, 4 month waiting lists and sadly as a result (after 20 years) Tennant Podiatry can no longer offer our NHS services. If you’re experiencing ongoing foot, ankle or lower limb pain and are waiting for NHS musculoskeletal (Pennine MSK) treatment, you may be considering private care to access specialist assessment and treatment sooner.

At Tennant Podiatry in Oldham, our advanced practitioners provide private Musculoskeletal (MSK)  assessments alongside bespoke insole orthotics and steroid injections, helping you understand the cause of your pain and explore appropriate treatment options without needing to wait for an NHS appointment. We are also offering a solution to all our loyal NHS patients over the last 20 years.

Steroid Injections Without Delay

Tennant Podiatry also provides corticosteroid and Hyaluronic acid (Ostenil) injections for conditions including osteoarthritis, mortons neuroma  and heel pain such as plantar fasciitis, following an assessment of whether injection therapy is appropriate.

A steroid injection delivers corticosteroid directly to the affected area to help reduce inflammation and pain. The aim is to create a period of reduced discomfort during which appropriate rehabilitation and activity modification can take place.

Why Go Fully Private For Podiatry?

01 Faster Access

At Tennant Podiatry, you can arrange an appointment directly. You do not need a GP referral, so you can skip the middleman and come to us  directly to get the foot and ankle solution you need.

02 1-1 With A Specialist

Your podiatrist will consider your symptoms alongside your foot structure, movement, walking pattern and the demands you place on your feet. Our clinicians are HCPC registered and not only members, but also ACCREDITED by the Royal College of Podiatry.

03 Bespoke 3D Orthotics

Orthotics are prescribed to influence how pressure and forces are distributed through the feet and lower limbs. We can duplicate your existing NHS orthotics without the wait or upgrade you to a fully bespoke 3D printed device that will last 5 years.

Already Have NHS Orthotics?

The NHS waiting list is now 18 weeks, if  your existing NHS insoles work well for you but need replacing, we can duplicate them privately, with our simple DROP and COLLECT  service without needing an appointment. Simply leave your orthotics at reception and we will duplicate them for you. When they’re ready we will give you a call for collection. A single set is £45 and any extra sets after that are only £30 exta.

Alternatively, if your current orthotics are no longer providing the support you need, you will need an appointment. In this case we can assess your foot function and consider whether a new bespoke device would be more appropriate. If you attend with your existing NHS orthotics we are offering an assessment including a set of orthotics for £95 (normally £140). To get the discounted price you need to attend with your Pennine MSK orthotics as evidence that we have previously seen you through  Pennine MSK.

Our Private MSK Services

Insole Orthotics

We offer assessment for replacement or duplicated NHS orthotics and bespoke 3D printed orthotics, depending on your requirements. Our scanning technology allows us to create devices tailored to your foot shape and clinical prescription.

Steroid Injections

Steroid injections are available for appropriate foot and ankle conditions, including certain joint problems and heel pain. Tennant Podiatry also offers hyaluronic acid injections as an alternative option in some circumstances.

Private MSK Assessments

Our podiatrists assess a broad range of foot and lower limb MSK conditions, including heel pain, plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies, arthritis and problems associated with walking or running mechanics. We also specialise in mobility issues.

Already an NHS or Pennine MSK Patient?

If you are already receiving NHS care, you may not need to start from scratch when seeking private treatment.

1. Assessment: Arrange a private new patient appointment with one of our experienced podiatrists. We will discuss your symptoms, medical history and current treatment before assessing your foot and lower limb function. If you already have NHS issued orthotics, bring them with you where possible. They can provide useful information about the support you have previously been prescribed and may allow us to discuss whether a private replacement or duplication is suitable.

2. Scan: If orthotics are appropriate, we can assess your existing NHS device and modify or replace it.  We will also carry out a 3D scan of your feet to determine the most suitable prescription, high pressure areas, the alignment of your feet and the level of correction needed. You can then choose a like for like prefabricated NHS insole replacement or let us design a bespoke  orthotic using CAD CAM, so that it’s tailored to you and your needs for 3D Printing.

3. Fit: You can then leave with your replacement NHS devices or attend for a fitting appointment for your bespoke orthotics, with advice on introducing and wearing them appropriately.

You can also continue NHS care where appropriate. Choosing private treatment does not prevent you from discussing your ongoing healthcare with your GP or NHS clinical team.

FAQs

We answer the most commonly asked questions about MSK treatment and NHS waiting lists for the treatment.

  • Do I need a GP referral to see a private podiatrist?

No. Tennant Podiatry accepts direct appointments, so you do not need a GP referral to arrange a private podiatry assessment.

  • What is the difference between custom orthotics and normal insoles?

Standard insoles are generally manufactured in predetermined shapes and sizes, whereas custom orthotics are designed according to an individual's foot shape and clinical requirements. A bit like a pair of reading glasses compared to prescription glasses from an optician. Just like your eyes, your feet are unique and different to everyone else's.

  • How much are custom orthotics?

The cost of custom orthotics depends on the type of device you require. Our bespoke orthotics are individually prescribed following an assessment of your feet, biomechanics, medical history, and symptoms. The team can discuss the available options and associated costs with you before proceeding with treatment.

  • Can I get custom orthotics privately if I am waiting for an NHS appointment?

Yes. You can arrange a private assessment with Tennant Podiatry without waiting for an NHS appointment or obtaining a GP referral.

If you already have NHS issued orthotics, bring them with you where possible. Your podiatrist can assess your existing devices and discuss whether they can be duplicated privately or whether a new prescription would be more appropriate.

  • Can I have private treatment while remaining on an NHS waiting list?

Private treatment and NHS care can sometimes run alongside one another. Choosing to seek private assessment does not automatically mean you need to discontinue NHS care. If you are currently receiving NHS treatment or waiting for an appointment, it is sensible to keep your GP or NHS clinical team informed about any treatment you receive privately. If you are happy for us to share the information we can even send a report of our findings and treatment to the GP.

  • How long does it take to get custom orthotics?

In most cases we can design and print the orthotics within a week. The timeframe depends on the type of orthotic prescribed and the individual manufacturing and fitting process. Your podiatrist will explain the expected timeframe during your assessment so you know what to expect before proceeding.
